Sometimes when you're facing dangerous travels and imminent death, it's good to have a distraction. Like now for instance barreling through the woods at 40 miles an hour in a minivan, my only distraction is an audiobook.
Why am I in a minivan barreling through the woods at 40 mph?
I'm glad you asked.
My father decided that our "vacation" needed a little detour. If you call visiting your great great aunt in a retirement home a vacation anyway, which he does. Our detour consisted of checking his hunting traps and deer feeds for his private property.
As we're racing through brush and bramble, narrowly avoiding trees- I decided I needed such a distraction. Of course the characters in the Mark of Athena face imminent death as well, but honestly I'd rather be on a magical journey than speeding through the woods in my mom's van. Also, I'd much rather have a Percy Jackson or Jason Grace with me for protection.
*sigh*
Anyway, the best I can do is a redneck father (who I love but who is a little on the crazy side), who by the way navigates through an untrodden path dodging pine trees fairly quickly pretty well actually- all the while hoping to get back alive to start my newest college course tomorrow.
American History wasn't my first choice, but I've grown to love the stories that actually happened, and laughing at people's mistakes is always fun if they can't hear me.
I can't tell you how many times I've done a face palm over past emperors of Rome for instance.
I love these stupid heroes, who have met so many of the people and deities I studied in Roman history. And thanks to this book series, I knew quite enough about Ancient Greek and Roman myths to understand everything. I remember stopping the lesson and providing extra information on the topic- which by the way is a bad idea. No one likes a knowitall. I didn't mind the scowles however, because it was exciting!
Enough of my bragging though.
Just read the series. Seriously, it's more than worth it.
