Chapter 2:
The wound hurt more than it should have. I cursed myself for not being good enough. My hearing was nearly destroyed when the White Coats were trying to "improve" it. This was my first mission, and thanks to my horrible hearing, I failed. Hot tears rolled down my cheeks as I angrily wiped them off.
Then I felt something behind me and straightened.
A girl came towards me and helped me with my wound. Then a tall boy walked out from the shadows and started helping her.
"Who are you?" I asked. The tall blonde girl exchanged glances with the boy, and she smirked at me.
"Who are you?" She asked as she rose an eyebrow. I quickly looked down, contemplating on whether to tell her.
"I...I'm not from here," I said as I glanced at my wings. Then it hit me; why weren't they freaking out? Why weren't they asking questions about my wings?
I watched as she gently unfolded her wings. Oh.
"Neither am I." She said. "We can't talk here, we have to get somewhere safe. Can you use those?" She said, referring to my wings. I nodded. She helped me to my feet, and I caught the tall, dark boy glaring at her. She glared back and they seemed to be talking with their eyes. Finally, the boy grimaced and took off into the air. The girl and I followed.
"I'm Max by the way." She said, her big brown eyes staring at me, as if she was trying to figure me out.
"I'm Rain." I said. I pushed my dark brown hair behind my ear as we landed on top of a cave. Several others with wings were sitting there. They all stood up when I landed.
"Flock, Rain, Rain, Flock." She moved her hands towards the flock. They all just stared at me and then looked at my leg.
Max pulled me over to a secluded area and propped my leg on a rock.
"Time to spill the beans." She said, watching me intently.
"I grew up in a science lab. I've always had these wings. Recently they did another procedure on me, and I don't think you want to know what it is. They also messed up my ears while trying to improve them. I was in that lab for 14 years. I haven't even been outside until today." I finished. She didn't look surprised. She actually looked as though she expected it.
She leaned in and gave me an incredibly intimidating stare.
"You will tell me the recent 'procedure'." She said. I nodded.
"I'm an... Eraser." She looked like she was going to kill me.
